Saveseeds.org is
the home of the Victory Horticultural LibrarySM
and
is a wonderful and informative site
for all who are interested
in historical horticulture and the the preservation of significant
commercially released and family heirloom cultivars.
This
great resource was started by
Mike Dunton,
president of the
Victory Seed Company
and is maintained and supported by the Victory Seed Company with the
only other monetary support coming from donations and subscriptions to
access certain parts of the site.
David
Pendergrass, owner of the New Hope Seed Company has collaborated with
Mike and offered support in whatever way he could and continues to
regularly.
Mike considers the
Victory Horticultural LibrarySM
a joint venture of sorts with David Pendergrass but David feels it an
honor and privilege to help where ever he can. (New Hope Seed/David
Pendergrass has
donated several catalog scans and other materials and continues to
do so.)
The
Victory Horticultural LibrarySM
encompasses many things including the library material of old books
(some online, others to come as time and funds become available), seed
catalogs etc., cultivar database, seedsmen hall of fame, links and
information dealing with Seed Production & Breeding, Seed Science &
Testing and Seed Storage to name a few.
Heritage Gardening & Seed Research Forum
One of the most used features at the
Victory Horticultural LibrarySM
is the
Heritage Gardening & Seed Research Forum, here everyone from
gardeners to researchers can get together and talk and share information
and resources. There are many different topics on the forum including
tomato growing, pepper growing, greenhouses, tools and equipment, seed
exchange and regional topics to name a few as well as the research topic
section.
David
Pendergrass is a moderator of many of the forum topics including General
Veggie Chat, Southern U.S., Direct Farm Marketing, Tools and Equipment
and
Tobacco Growing.
As a
result of being part, albeit a small part, of the
Victory Horticultural LibrarySM
and Heritage Gardening & Seed Research Forum, we feel that this is the
best resource to offer our customers rather than
setting up a Q/A forum on our site at this time.
We
hope you will use this great resource and show your support for their
hard work and time and resources.
